莱比锡大学今日拆除马克思塑像。为进行校园改建,这座于1973年建成、重33吨的塑像将被分割成四部分暂时移放。其命运和去向引起广泛争议,何去何从将待官员们作出决定。
In East Germany, Karl Marx had whole cities named after him, and statues of the "inventor" of communism were ubiquitous. But the bearded face largely disappeared after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 -- with exceptions, such as the Marx-Engels statue in central Berlin and the massive Marx relief attached to the main building of Leipzig University. The latter vanished on Monday, making room for a complete renovation of the university campus. The relief, which was made in 1973 and weighs 33 tons, will be cut in four pieces and stored until officials have decided what to do with it. A controversy is already brewing over whether it should be displayed again.
